Reverse balayage is exactly what it sounds like: the opposite of a classic balayage. Where a traditional balayage hand-paints lighter tones through the hair, reverse balayage paints darker tones and lowlights back in. How It Differs From Classic Balayage
Classic balayage lifts and brightens for that sun-kissed, lived-in look. Over time, or after lots of lightening, blonde hair can end up looking too light, flat or one-dimensional. Reverse balayage adds depth, shadow and shine back in. Because it's hand-painted rather than applied all over, the result still looks soft and natural instead of a solid block of colour.
