Good curls start with the right plan.
A perm changes the structure of your hair, so the consultation is as important as the finished look. Claire and Jing assess its condition, length, density and chemical history before advising whether a perm is suitable and what kind of result is realistic. Bring photographs of the movement you like and tell us about previous colour, bleach, smoothing treatments or home products. We will explain how the rod size, placement and your haircut work together, and whether a test is needed before going ahead. We use professional Goldwell texture products and tailor the service to your hair. Your quote and appointment length are confirmed after assessment. You leave with advice on caring for the new texture and styling it at home.
Comprehensive perms solutions.
Body Wave Perm
Soft, flowing waves that add volume and movement throughout your hair. Uses larger rods for a relaxed, natural look rather than defined curls.
Beach Wave Perm
Tousled, textured waves that mimic the look of air-dried beach hair. Perfect for adding effortless movement to straight or limp hair.
Texture Perm
Targeted perming to add body and texture where you need it most. Can be applied to specific sections for volume at the roots or movement through the mid-lengths.
Curl Perm
A more defined curl pattern for clients who want noticeable, bouncy curls. Rod size and technique are customised to create the curl definition you are after.

First visit or fiftieth — here's what to expect.
Consultation & suitability
Meet Claire or Jing to discuss your goal, haircut and complete chemical history. We assess condition and decide whether any tests or preparation are needed before booking your perm.
Your tailored perm appointment
We select the winding pattern and professional product for the agreed shape. Processing and neutralising follow the product instructions, with appointment time based on your hair and the work involved.
Style, care & settle in
We show you how to handle the new texture and explain your product-specific aftercare, including when to wash and how to dry it. We also discuss the haircut and maintenance that will support your curls.
Soft waves, body or a more defined curl
The starting point is the movement you want, not a one-size-fits-all perm. A softer wave can bring body to a flatter shape; a more defined pattern can create a completely different silhouette.
The finished effect depends on your hair length, density and condition as well as the winding technique. Bring a few references so Claire or Jing can explain which elements are achievable and how much styling the look will need.

Men’s perms. Texture with a plan.
A perm can introduce movement through a longer top, create a softer wavy shape or give a more defined curly look. It needs to work with the haircut, so we plan the length, sides and balance together.
Book a consultation with Claire or Jing before choosing a full perm appointment. We will assess whether you have enough length for the effect you want and explain the upkeep. Already have natural curls? A specialist haircut and styling advice may be the service you need.

Goldwell texture, chosen for your hair
We work with professional Goldwell texture products, choosing the approach around your starting hair and desired finish. Goldwell’s Texture Dimensions range offers options for different hair conditions and curl or wave goals.
Product choice is only part of the service: sectioning, winding and your haircut help shape the result. We discuss suitability before treatment and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. A product designed for coloured hair does not mean every coloured or lightened head of hair can safely be permed.

Coloured, bleached or previously smoothed? Tell us.
Your hair history helps us make the right decision. Tell Claire or Jing about colour, highlights, bleach, previous perms, straightening or smoothing services, including treatments done elsewhere or at home.
Some hair needs testing or preparation, and some will not be suitable for a perm. We will explain this at consultation and discuss alternatives where appropriate. Bring details of products or previous salon treatments if you have them, and avoid booking overlapping chemical services without speaking to us first.
Make the most of your new movement
A perm still needs a routine. We explain when you can first wash your hair and which care instructions apply to the product and technique used. Follow that advice rather than guessing from a general online rule.
At home, handle your hair gently, use the recommended conditioner and styling products, and learn how to encourage the shape as it dries. We can show you scrunching or diffuser techniques where appropriate. Discuss future colour, heat styling and repeat perms with your stylist so the condition and grow-out remain part of the plan.
Claire & Jing. Consultation first.
Perming is a specialist service at Wigs & Warpaint, carried out by Claire and Jing. They will talk through your goal, assess your hair and confirm the appointment time and price before treatment.
Contact the salon on 0114 270 0336 and ask for a perm consultation. Let us know if you want soft waves, more body or a defined curl, plus your current length and colour history. We will help you arrange the right starting appointment.
Ask for Claire or JingYour perm questions, answered.
How long will my perm last? There is no single timetable. Your hair, chosen pattern, cut, growth and homecare affect how the texture wears and grows out. Claire or Jing will discuss what to expect for your particular service.
Can I have a perm on coloured hair? Possibly, but suitability depends on the complete chemical history and current condition. Tell us about bleach, highlights, colour and smoothing treatments. We may recommend testing, a different plan or no perm.
How much does a perm cost? We quote after consultation because length, density, technique and appointment time vary. Ask us to confirm what is included, including any haircut or additional treatment, before booking.
How do I book? Call 0114 270 0336 and ask for a perm consultation with Claire or Jing. A natural curly cut is a separate service if you already have curls and want help with shape.
