Balayage is a freehand painting technique used to create graduated lightness and dimension. Traditional highlights often give more evenly distributed brightness, including nearer the roots. A blended balayage-style look can also involve foilayage, fine highlights, lowlights or a root blend. We choose the combination around your hair and desired result.

Balayage starts from £110. The full price depends on your stylist, hair length and density, previous colour and the work required. At consultation, ask us to confirm whether toner, root blending, treatments, cutting and finishing are included. Larger changes and corrective work need an individual quote.

Allow several hours for a larger balayage appointment, including consultation, application, processing and the agreed toning and finishing services. A partial refresh may take less time; corrective work may require more time or several visits. Reception will confirm the time needed once your service has been assessed.

Some clients refresh lightness around every 3–4 months, with a toner refresh around 6–8 weeks if needed. These are guides, not fixed rules. Your starting colour, root contrast, grey coverage, washing and preferred tone all affect upkeep. Lightened hair stays lighter as it grows, while the toner can fade sooner.

Often, but the result depends on the colour already in your hair and its condition. Old dark dye may lift unevenly or reveal strong warmth. Tell us about all previous colour and chemical services. We may suggest a strand test, a warmer first result or a staged colour-correction plan instead of trying to reach a pale blonde in one visit.

Contact us before your appointment so we can arrange the testing required for your service. Allergy alert testing follows the instructions for the colour products involved, including a toner or root colour where applicable. A strand test checks how the hair responds and is different from an allergy test. Off-scalp lightening does not automatically mean no testing is needed.

Balayage can help soften the contrast between some greys and the surrounding colour, but it is not the same as full coverage. If covering grey roots is your priority, you may need a separate root-colour service. We will discuss coverage versus blending and how each choice changes your maintenance schedule.

Yes, where your hair is suitable for colouring. Placement should follow the cut and the way your hair naturally moves. Curls may benefit from individually considered areas of lightness, while a bob can use more subtle ribbons or a face frame. Let us know how you normally wear your hair so we can plan a result that works beyond a salon blow-dry.

Lightening can reveal warmth. Toner refines the shade, whether you want a warmer, cooler or more neutral result, but it does not replace the lift needed for a much paler blonde. Use appropriate colour-care products and heat protection, and ask your stylist before using purple or blue shampoo. Your toner-refresh schedule depends on your chosen shade and how it wears.
