Thinking about extensions, but not sure what to book or what to ask? You do not need to arrive knowing your tapes from your wefts. A consultation is where we work out what you want your hair to do, what is suitable and what keeping it looking good will involve.
At Wigs & Warpaint in Sheffield, our hair extension consultation is a dedicated 30-minute appointment costing £30. That fee is fully credited against your extension fitting if you go ahead. Here is how to make the most of the conversation.

1. Bring a few pictures, and tell us what you like about them
Two or three useful references are better than a phone full of completely different looks. Is it the length you love, the fullness at the ends, the colour blend or the way the hair falls around the face? Tell us what you would change about your own hair, too.
It is absolutely fine to want more fullness without going longer. Equally, an inspiration picture is a starting point for discussion, rather than a promise of an identical result on different hair.
2. Tell us what has been done to your hair
Let your stylist know about recent colour, lightening, straightening or perming, and any extensions you already wear. If you have existing extensions fitted elsewhere, mention that when booking so reception can help arrange the right appointment. You do not need to remove them yourself to prepare.
We assess your natural hair before recommending a fitting. If extensions are not suitable, we will say so.
3. Talk us through an ordinary week
Do you wear your hair up for work, exercise most days, or prefer to wash and go? How much time do you realistically want to spend drying and styling it? These details are much more useful than saying you will suddenly follow a complicated routine every morning.
Ask how the proposed placement will work with the styles you actually wear. If a high ponytail is part of everyday life, say that at the consultation.
4. Ask why a particular method is being recommended
A good question is: “Why does this option suit my hair and routine?” You do not have to choose a method just because a friend wears it. Our hair extensions service page explains the options we work with, including Remi Cachet and Beauty Works hair.
Discuss the amount of hair, the length and the finish together. More hair is not automatically the right answer.
5. Give us a budget for both the fitting and the upkeep
Be comfortable saying what you want to spend. Ask for the quote to make clear what covers the hair, fitting, cutting and blending, and aftercare. Then ask what later maintenance, removal and eventual replacement may cost.
Our current price list is a useful starting point, but a fitting-only price is not the total cost of a new set. Your own quote depends on the hair and work you need.
6. Mention any colour plans before hair is ordered
If you are thinking about going lighter, darker or changing your balayage, bring it up now. Ask your stylist how to coordinate the colour appointment and extension match. A shade chosen for today's hair may not be the shade you want after a colour change.
7. Leave knowing what happens next
Before you leave, make sure you understand the proposed look, the complete quote, the homecare involved and when maintenance would be due. Ask what happens if you need to delay the fitting, and confirm any booking or payment requirements before committing.
If you are planning extensions for a wedding, holiday or another event, tell us the date at the start. That lets us discuss a realistic plan rather than assume everything can happen at the last minute.
